Three major, interlinking themes have emerged for us during the past few years, which influence our approach to the work we do, they are history, emotional intelligence and patterns of behaviour.
History, because we all have a history, personal and social. We don't exist in a bubble of present time, we are connected to the past by our (and others') actions. So often, in behavioural and relationship terms, which is the focus of our work, people either ignore the past completely or try to circumvent it, and are surprised and frustrated when other people prevent them moving forward because, for them, the past is a very real presence. We have also made history the focus of a number our programmes where we have looked at events surrounding the Charge of the Light Brigade, examining in detail people and behaviour, leadership and decisions, using the past to illuminate the present.
Emotional Intelligence, because, based on the evidence, it is important for all of us -especially our leaders - to understand that IQ is not everything!
Patterns, because we all have patterns of behaviour, automatic responses that we resort to when dealing with certain repeated situations. We call them our default responses. Much of our work is around helping people understand these 'defaults' and to develop, and rehearse, different options of behaviour that just might get them different outcomes.
